Taylor Lautner was cast in the film Twilight New Moon at the age of 17. Before that, he had trained in martial arts from 6 till he was 13 years old. He was a black belt in karate and won the Junior World Championship when he was 12. He started acting in 2001 and got the part of Jacob Black in the film Twilight in 2008.

He had to work hard to maintain his role in the Twilight series

Taylor played the role of Jacob Black in the first film of Twilight series. However, for the second film, New Moon, the director Catherine Hardwicke considered giving someone else the role of Jacob. Jacob was portrayed as a werewolf in the second movie, so the director wanted someone who was more of a muscular person.

For Taylor, it was to either get that look or leave the role. He took the latter. Taylor was lucky because his body was trained in martial arts. This was the reason why he was able to train better than any average 17 years old would have.

It was his martial arts training that builds the building steps to develop such a fine body shape within 9 months period. The training he received in martial arts shows the effects on the body normally when the person reaches his mid-20s. Martial artists work on their core to drive power. This training works out the core of their abs. The person then only needs to shed fat to make the abs visible.

Gaining muscles at first is very easy

When a person starts working out for the first time, he can easily gain a lot of mass. Taylor was able to gain 20 pounds of mass because of this. Taylor developed a fine natural looking build which was better for a young guy of his age.

Taylor was able to develop his body for the role of Jacob Black in Twilight New Moon in just about 9 months. A normal young guy of his age usually develops such a body in 1 to 2 years.
